French press broke mid-pour and now I'm a pour-over convert
Last Tuesday around 6 AM before my night shift, my trusty Bodum French press slipped out of my hand and shattered on the tile floor. Coffee grounds and glass went everywhere, and I had zero time to clean up or make a new batch. I grabbed my roommate's cheap plastic pour-over cone out of desperation and used the electric kettle at work. Honestly, the cup was cleaner and didn't have that sludge at the bottom I always tried to avoid. Been using a stainless steel pour-over setup for a week now and I'm not missing the French press at all. Anyone else switch brewing methods after an accident ruined their morning?

Dropped my own Bodum last winter trying to dry it with a dish towel... thing exploded like a glass bomb in my sink. Spent a solid hour picking tiny shards out of the drain. Ended up switching to a cheap plastic Melitta cone that same week and honestly haven't looked back. No more fighting with a plunger that sticks halfway down.

My neighbor had the same thing happen with a Bodum carafe two years ago, @lee733. She was just rinsing it out under the faucet and it shattered right in her hands, sent glass flying across the kitchen. I remember helping her sweep up and we kept finding tiny slivers in the rug for weeks afterward. That cheap Melitta cone really is a lifesaver, no glass to worry about and the coffee tastes just as good. I think a lot of people get sold on the fancy look of a French press without realizing how fragile that glass can be.
