Old supervisor in Port Fourchon told me to stop babying my drysuit zippers
He said just dunk the whole thing in fresh water after every dive and grease it once a month, no need for all that gentle wiping down every time. I was spending 15 extra minutes per dive cleaning it and he showed me his suit that's lasted 8 years with that rough approach. Has anyone else had a diver tell you something that totally changed your whole routine?

Man that old timer was right on the money. A buddy of mine used to treat his drysuit like it was made of glass and it still started leaking after two years. I switched to just rinsing the whole suit in a tub of freshwater after every dive and hitting the zippers with a silicone spray once a month. Now my suit is four years old and still seals perfectly. I swear the more you fuss over them the faster they break. Those old school guys know what works.

Yeah I used to be one of those guys who babied my suit. Stored it special, did all the fancy treatments. Still had a wrist seal go bad after a year and a half. @patricia_wells I read your post last night and figured I'd try your method on my backup suit. Just the tub rinse and silicone on the zipper, nothing else. That was three months ago and it's holding up way better than the fancy care ever did. Makes you wonder how much we overcomplicate things.
