A client in Omaha said my diagnostic notes were 'gibberish' to them

I used to write super technical logs, but now I keep a second set in plain English. Anyone have a good template for customer-facing notes?

Seriously, ditch the template idea. A rigid format just creates a different kind of jargon. Just write exactly what you'd tell them if they were standing right next to you.

Write what you'd tell them if they were standing right next to you" is such a good point. I tried a super formal template once and ended up sounding like a robot reading a terms of service agreement. My friend read it and was like, "Who talks like this?" I had to scrap the whole thing and just start over with normal words. It's way harder to sound like a real person than you'd think lol.

Yeah, "Who talks like this?" is exactly what I got from my brother when I sent him a draft of a message I was overthinking. He just laughed and said, "Dude, they know you're not a lawyer, why are you writing like one?" I scrapped the whole thing after that. It's funny how we think formal means professional, but really it just means stiff and weird. @uma_nelson, I think your friend did you a favor by calling it out. Honestly, the more I try to sound smart, the dumber I come across. Now I just write like I'm texting a buddy and it works way better.
