My boss told me to always use the OEM thermal paste on gaming rigs, but I found a $8 tube that works better.

He insisted for years that generic paste caused overheating, but after testing temps on five different builds, the cheap stuff actually dropped my averages by 3 degrees Celsius. Anyone have a go-to paste they swear by for client systems?

Arctic MX-6 has been my go to for three years now. I keep a big syringe in my tool bag and it works on everything from budget office PCs to custom water loops. The stuff just spreads easy and holds up. Never had a client come back with thermal issues.

MX-6 is solid stuff. I switched to it after some pump-out issues with another paste on direct die cooling. It just stays put.

My old roommate was convinced name brand AA batteries lasted twice as long. We did a blind test with his TV remote and a stopwatch. The generic store brand from the dollar store outlasted the expensive ones by a solid week. He still buys the fancy ones, says it's about "peace of mind.
