Finally got a customer to understand why we need that extra half inch of gap
I mean, I've been doing this for a while now, and I swear, the biggest fight is always about expansion gaps. This lady in a new build over in the east side wanted her LVP absolutely tight to the baseboards, no quarter round, said she saw it on a design show. I had to explain, like three times, that her house is gonna move, especially in the summer heat. I showed her a job I did two years ago where the homeowner refused the gap, and I had to go back when it buckled. It wasn't a huge call, maybe $400 to fix, but it was a whole day. She finally listened after I pulled up the manufacturer's spec sheet on my phone. It's just wild how often people think we're trying to upsell them on trim when it's literally to save their floor. Has anyone else found a good way to explain this without sounding like you're just making more work?

Yeah, showing them the spec sheet is the only thing that works sometimes.

My buddy had to pull up the actual spec sheet to prove his point last week.
