My comic got wrecked at a meetup in Cleveland last month

I was at a local comic fan meetup in Cleveland, showing off my favorite issue of The Amazing Spider-Man #300. Someone bumped my elbow and I dropped it right into a puddle of spilled soda. The cover got soaked and stuck to the backing board. I carefully peeled it apart and laid it flat to dry, but the colors still ran a bit. Has anyone else had a comic damaged at an event and managed to fix it?

Changed my mind about using water to cool a hot mold

Was at the shop in Toledo last month. Had a steel mold that was way too hot to handle, maybe 400 degrees. My old habit was to hit it with a hose spray. Did that, heard a loud crack. The mold split right down the middle. Boss said I cost us a $1200 part. Now I only use the forced air fans and let it sit. Takes longer, but no more cracks. Anyone got a better way to speed up cooling without the shock?

Overheard a guy at the REI in Boulder say he ditched his 5-pound camp chair for a 12-ounce sit pad...

I tried it on a 3-day trip in the San Juans last month and honestly, I didn't miss the chair at all, which saved a ton of pack space, so has anyone else made a switch like that and stuck with it?

Showerthought: I used to crank my ISO way up for deep sky shots

Someone on here said my Andromeda photo looked grainy and suggested I stack more exposures at a lower ISO instead. I tried it with 50 lights at ISO 800 instead of 20 at 3200, and the noise reduction was huge. What's your go-to ISO for galaxies?

I pulled the public grid reports from our state's utility commission website. The data clearly showed a transformer failed due to a documented lightning strike from that same storm. It matters because jumping to wild conclusions without checking primary sources just feeds bad info. Has anyone else had to fact-check a scary local story like that?

I was reading a book on old barns and found out how many nails they used

I mean, I was flipping through this book I got at a yard sale, 'Forgotten Barns of Ohio,' just for fun. It said a big barn built around 1900 could use over 20,000 hand-forged nails, which is wild to think about. That's like a whole lifetime of hammering for one guy, idk. Has anyone else come across a fact about old building methods that just stopped you cold?
