Remember when every custom house had a formal living room nobody used?

I was walking a client through a 2005 build in Charlotte and they pointed at that empty room and said, 'What a waste, can we make it a workshop instead?' That one comment killed the 'parlor' for me. Do you still see people asking for them, or is that trend finally dead?

My foreman in Tulsa swore by a 3/8-inch gap for boiler tube expansion joints, and I did it that way for a decade.

After a joint on a 500 psi unit failed last spring, I switched to a 1/2-inch minimum and haven't had a callback since. Why are so many crews still sticking to the old, tighter spec?

My sales page conversion rate went from 1.2% to 4.8% in two months after one change.

I run a small online course for freelance writers. For over a year, my sales page had a conversion rate stuck at about 1.2%. I read a post here about testing your main headline and finally tried it. I swapped my old headline for one that directly stated the main benefit in plain language. I used a tool called Hotjar to see where people were clicking and leaving. After the change, the rate climbed steadily and settled at 4.8%. Has anyone else seen a jump like this just from rewriting a headline? What other small page tweaks have given you a big lift?

Hot take: People keep saying 'shadowbanning' is new, but I saw it happen on a forum back in 2009.

I ran a music forum on Proboards around 2007 where the same thing happened. A few members who argued with the new admin found their replies invisible to everyone else, but they could still see their own posts when logged in. It created such a weird, silent split in the community until we all compared notes. That experience made me really distrustful of forum software admin panels, because the tools were right there for anyone to use quietly. It was absolutely a form of gaslighting by making people seem like they were talking to themselves.

I think we've lost something with all this circuit board swapping

My recycling bin is basically a fancy middleman for the landfill at this point. Put a greasy pizza box in there last week (oops) and now that whole bag is probably contaminated. Sometimes it feels like I'm just sorting my trash into two different piles that end up in the same place.
