inI heard a guy at the star party say all astro photos need a telescope
My first year I was all about wide field shots on a basic tripod, I thought trackers were just extra weight. Then I tried for the North America Nebula with my 200mm kit lens and got nothing but star trails and noise. That failure made me finally listen to people like @tyler_knight. It forced me to rent a tracker, and the difference wasn't just small, it was night and day. Now I get the need for the right tool sometimes, even if starting simple is still the best first step.

inMy old 'follow the creek' navigation method versus my current GPS app (the change happened after a very wet night in the Smokies).
Honestly, the old ways sound romantic until you're actually out there. Following a creek is just asking for trouble when the weather turns. A GPS gives you the actual lay of the land, not just what's right in front of your face. It's the difference between guessing and knowing where you are. Why risk a cold, scary night when you can have a map in your pocket? Some lessons you only need to learn once.

inHad to choose between a 4x8 and a 4x10 sheet for a tricky ceiling patch
That pre-made panel idea from @jackson.jenny is clever, but was the 4x10 worth the fight to avoid a seam?

inThat week the power went out and we had to move a whole beef quarter by hand
A 20 minute drive for a backup cooler? That's just asking for trouble.

inMy old way of checking the news in Belarus got me a visit from state security
But what about the phone's IMEI number? I mean, even if you buy a burner with cash, that unique ID gets logged when you first connect to a network. Couldn't that still link everything back to you eventually?
