Finally got my first solo crane removal right after a storm in Dayton
Last week, a big storm took down a silver maple right onto a garage roof. My boss was out sick, so I had to run the whole job myself. I spent three hours setting the rigging and planning each cut with the crane operator. We got the tree off the roof without a scratch on the structure. Anyone else have tips for staying calm when you're suddenly the one in charge?

Staying calm" is just doing the job you trained for.

Yeah, "doing the job you trained for" is what my old instructor always said too. It's just muscle memory kicking in.

My instructor always said muscle memory is maybe 60% of it. Honestly, the other 40% is your brain not freezing up when you see the whole picture. Tbh, planning those three hours of rigging is what keeps you calm, not just going on autopilot. It's the difference between knowing the cuts and running the whole show. You have to think for everyone on site, and that's a different kind of training.
