PSA: I asked a question about car maintenance on a general forum and got a dangerously wrong answer.

I posted in a big 'ask anything' group last month, specifically asking if it was okay to mix DOT 4 and DOT 5.1 brake fluid in my Ford F-150. Someone replied with a super confident 'yes, they're all the same' and I almost went with it. Has anyone else gotten a totally incorrect answer from a supposedly helpful community, and how do you double-check the advice you get online?

Trust the crowd, forums work because people share real world experience. That guy was probably right for most normal cars.
