Got a 30-day ban from a local Facebook group for correcting a fact about pressure washing laws...

Someone posted that you could run a pressure washer business here in Charlotte without any license at all, which is flat wrong. I commented with a link to the city's actual contractor rules page and got hit with a 'spreading misinformation' flag from a mod... then the ban. Learned that some people just want an echo chamber, not facts. How do you handle it when trying to correct something gets you silenced instead?

PSA: How a near-miss made me rethink quick crane setups

Back when I was new, I figured fast setup checks were fine to keep jobs moving. We'd often skip a few steps (like a full gear inspection) to save time. Then I saw a buddy's crane sway badly because a base plate wasn't level. That shook me up and made me slow down. Now, I always do a full walk-around, even on simple lifts. It adds a few minutes, but it cuts out big risks. Looking back, I wish I'd learned that lesson sooner.

Warning: A quick spoke tension check saved a carbon wheel from ruin

A customer brought in a carbon wheel set with a clicking noise. Using a tension meter, I spotted three spokes way out of spec and adjusted them to even tension. The click vanished and the bike handles perfectly now. Why do some shops skip this basic check?

Why I gave up on always using hardwood for projects

I used to think only hardwood was worth using for furniture. Softwood seemed too cheap and weak for anything good. Then I built a pine bookshelf for my kid's room that held up for years. Now I see how softwood can be perfect for painted pieces or quick builds. It saves cash and still looks nice with a solid finish. Picking the right wood for each job just makes sense now.

It turned into a shared project when other joggers started pointing out spots I missed.

Using a banned novel's quote in a presentation got me in hot water

I was putting together a slide deck for a big client meeting. I included a passage from a book I admire, 'The Satanic Verses' by Salman Rushdie, which is banned in many countries. My manager pulled me aside and said we couldn't use it because our client operates in some of those places. Had to redo the whole section last minute. It got me thinking about how global businesses deal with censorship. Have you run into similar issues with books or films in your role? What's the protocol at your company?
